Nitin Gadkari has announced that a crucial road connecting Mizoram’s Lawngtlai with Myanmar’s Sittwe port will be completed by next month

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced on October 31, 2023 that a crucial road connecting Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district with Myanmar’s Sittwe port will be completed by November 2023.

The road is part of the ambitious Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMTTP), which aims to connect India’s north-eastern region with the Sittwe port in Myanmar, providing a shorter and more efficient route to trade with Southeast Asia.

The 26-km road project has cost Rs 1,132 crore to construct and will be helpful in connecting Myanmar’s Sittwe port, which is a strategic location for India’s Act East policy.

The completion of the road is a significant development for the region, as it will boost trade and economic activity between India and Myanmar. It will also provide a much-needed alternative route for the transportation of goods and people between the two countries.

The Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project is a trilateral initiative between India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. The project was launched in 2008 and is expected to be completed by 2023.
